The Challenge: Get this light bulb to light!
The students were given a battery, wire, bulb holder and bulb with the challenge to make it work. They met the challenge and learned a lot about electrical circuits. On Friday, February 20 there will be a test on what we have learned. Monday, students brought home a matching activity. Please make sure your child cuts out the words and definitions on the line and uses them to study for the test. This is our science homework this week. Please sign the attached strip verifying that your child cut them out and used the pieces to study for the test. Make it fun by playing “Memory” with the pieces.
Some of the other things we have done are:
- Make a poster demonstrating various electricity safety rules
- Test to see if various materials are conductors or insulators of electricity
- Arrange the electrical supplies so that one bulb will stay lit, while the other is unscrewed (a parallel circuit)
- Attach a knife switch to open and close a circuit
- Make an electromagnet
- Use static electricity to move a stream of water and a Cheerio hanging from a thread
