		<title>The Challenge: Get this light bulb to light!</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://cboersma.edublogs.org/files/2009/02/images1.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-128" title="images1" src="http://cboersma.edublogs.org/files/2009/02/images1.jpg" alt="" width="133" height="101" /></a>The students were given a battery, wire, bulb holder and bulb with the challenge to make it work.  They met the challenge and learned a lot about electrical circuits.  On Friday, February 20 there will be a test on what we have learned.  Monday, students brought home a matching activity.  Please make sure your child cuts out the words and definitions on the line and uses them to study for the test.  This is our <strong>science homework</strong> this week.  Please sign the attached strip verifying that your child cut them out and used the pieces to study for the test.  Make it fun by playing &#8220;Memory&#8221; with the pieces.</p>
<p>Some of the other things we have done are:</p>
<ul>
<li>Make a poster demonstrating various electricity safety rules</li>
<li>Test to see if various materials are conductors or insulators of electricity</li>
<li>Arrange the electrical supplies so that one bulb will stay lit, while the other is unscrewed (a parallel circuit)</li>
<li>Attach a knife switch to open and close a circuit</li>
<li>Make an electromagnet</li>
<li>Use static electricity to move a stream of water and a Cheerio hanging from a thread</li>
</ul>
